Babymoon / Travelling during your 2nd Trimester

The second trimester is said to be the best time for travelling, your not too big and uncomfortable, and the first trimester nausea and fatigue should of reduced if not disappeared. Once getting the go ahead from your midwife its highly recommended from most mums to get away with your partner and relax before baby arrives. Even if flying is not recommended, this doesn't dash your babymoon dreams. Find an amazing location driving distance, or accessible by train and get a short break. You will not regret it.

As long as your care provider gives the go ahead, flying and driving is safe during pregnancy as long as you take proper precautions. Here's a few tips to keep yourself (and baby) safe and comfy on the road and in the skies.

Move it

When flying, circulation is the key to comfort - be sure to keep moving. Get up and walk around once an hour, and wiggle or massage your legs every few minutes while seated. Same goes for anytime you're seated for an extended period throughout your pregnancy. Keeping the blood flowing reduces risk of varicose veins, thrombosis (blood clots) and swollen feet & ankles.

Buckle low

Wear your seat belt across the thighs and below the belly, where its safest and most comfortable.

Kick up your heels

Propping up your feet also helps blood flow- try using a carry on item or a spare seat

Drink up

Avoid travel induced dehydration and weariness by drinking lots of water. This will also help your skin stay fresh while travelling, and stop it drying out causing cracked lips and flaky skin.

Fly up front

To stay as comfy as possible, request an aisle seat on the front half of the plane. This will give you a smoother ride, and make its easier for you to get up and walk around. Especially with all the water you'll be drinking and your ever shrinking bladder.

Get comfy

Try a back support cushion or pillow. When travelling by car, push your seat back as far as possible, giving yourself leg room. If you need to take interval stops to walk around and stretch, do. You don't want to arrive at your destination stiff and cramping.

Taking all these tips into consideration, get online and get booking ladies. Here's some advice from real mummas when it comes to booking a babymoon.

Amanda - Make sure to pack things to make you comfortable. I packed my support belt so I could walk without discomfort, and my pregnancy pillow so I could get a good nights sleep.

Wendy - Choose a destination with everything on your doorstep to make the most of leisurely strolls to dinner or ice-cream, or to feel the sand between your toes, and don't forgot high factor sun cream, that belly is a lot closer to the sun than it used to be.

Carla - Bring comfy shoes and pack light. Don't forgot to take it easy, your growing a baby!!

Christine - This is your last vacation before baby arrives, so do exactly what you want to do. If you want to nap for 7 days straight, then go for it !! But if you want to see everything and do everything, then plan it out and do it.

Morgan - Keep a bottle of water on you at all times, especially in hotter climates, staying hydrated is key ladies, and its easy to forget when your out having fun.

Victoria - Enjoy your partner, spend time together, dine out or get a little couples massage, you'll be surprised how little time you'll get together after baby arrives.
