5 Must Buys & 5 Avoids

My 20 week scan is near approaching and I've been doing some research into what we actually need to buy. There is A LOT of information out there on essential new born buys and it can actually be really overwhelming. Especially with the likes of Pinterest and other mummy blogs & vlogs, I never really know if its genuine or paid promotion.

So I asked a group of 'real' young mums what their 5 essential buys were and also the 5 things new mums should probably avoid buying. Now this of course is all completely different for different women however a few of the same must have products popped up so that might be worth looking into further!

Katie's Must Buys
Young London Mum review on Chicco next to me crib
  1. Chicco , Next 2 Me crib
  2. Grow Egg
  3. Lansinoh Nipple Cream
  4. Baby Play Matt. I brought the baby Einstein one & it kept my baby girl stimulated & amused for hours
  5. Big organic muslin squares. Amazing for swaddling, burping, thin blanket and breast feeding

Katies's Avoids

  1. Tomme Tippee nappy bin. I use it sometimes just not as much as i'd imagined
  2. Lots of clothes. My little girl hardly wore any of her clothes
  3. Moses basket. My baby outgrew it really quickly
  4. Mittens. Waste of time and money! Only used for a week max

Emily's Must Buys

  1. Loads of Muslin squares
  2. Mothercare Music Player to sleep
  3. Mothercare Swing Chair
  4. Gro sleeping bag
Emily's Avoids
  1. Nappy bin
  2. Scratch mittens. They always fall off, I just used socks
  3. Bottle warmer

Jen's Must Buys

  1. Angel care camera baby monitor
  2. Joie rocker or swing
  3. Musical mobile for nap time
  4. Baby sling
  5. Chicco Next 2 Me

Jen's Avoids
  1. Tummy time spinning support
  2. Mittens
Sophie's Must Buys
  1. Stretchy baby wrap. I started of with a Jojo Mamn Bebe wrap with my first and now I primarily use a Mona Lisa Mumas wrap
  2. A baby bath seat. Baby's are slippery to hold in the bath, and as much as it sounds lovely to bathe with them all the time, it just doesn't always work that way
  3. A good bouncer/ rocker. Brand doesn't really matter ( although we loved our Tiny Love Rocker)
  4. A great quality, long-wearing travel system. We have the iCandy peach, its lasted us well for 3 years!
  5. Mimijumi Bottles. Essential for a breastfeeding mum with a boob monster. The shape mimics that of a breast making it the closest bottle to a boob. Its pricey but totally worth it!
Sophie's Avoids
  1. Tommee Tippee breast pump. If id know how much expressing would happen I would of gone straight for the big guns in the form of the Medela Swing and saved myself loads of hassle
  2. Moses Basket. Babies grow out of them so quickly, it just seems like a waste of space
  3. Breastfeeding Pillow. Any pillow will do the job !!
  4. Fussy clothes. Any fussy dresses or clothes for boys in the 0-6 month size category! Super cute but uncomfortable & impractical
  5. Expensive baby clothes. They will poo or puke in them, stick with Asda, Tesco or Morrisons clothes in the beginning. They wash well & you won't get upset if your child explodes in them

Roxanne's Must Buys
  1. Angelcare Bath Seat. Makes bathing easy and safe
  2. Ewan the Sheep. White noise function to help aid sleep, and a non annoying lullaby. It also features a red calming light
  3. Baby sleeping bag/ grow bag. Ideal for nightmare to keep baby warm and secure rather than kicking off blankets all night
  4. All-in-1 furry hooded suit for outside in the winter. Less faff than putting on layers like coats and comfier for baby
  5. Medulla Breast Pump. Perfect for expressing. If your using formula, Tommee Tippee perfect prep machine is fool proof
Roxanne's Avoids
  1. Unnecessary 'cutesy' clothes. Totally impractical and they will grow out of them in seconds
  2. Shoes. No matter how cute or cool they are, baby really does NOT need shoes
  3. Cuddly toys. Don't over buy. They are a hazard in moses basket/ cot for several months
