Natural Treatments for Pregnancy Spots

Pregnancy glow ? Or not so much ? Pregnancy acne is a pain in a butt, I've been pretty lucky (so far) although my random breakouts have been more frequent and last longer. However , luckily there are some natural remedies you can use to help get rid of or even prevent it.

Inside Out

First of all, before I talk about things that can be used directly on the skin, watch what your putting inside your body as I really believe beauty is inside out, and this works with skin care as well.

Eat Well

Studies show connections between high glycemic foods, conventional dairy and ache. Remove high sugar food and try to cut out processed wheat. Cut out gluten altogether (if possible) and choose non-starchy vegetables. Choose organic dairy when possible, and switch your coffee milk to oat or coconut.

Hormonal Imbalance

Again, eat well. Your body can't produce hormones without the right building blocks, so eating a 'real food' diet rich in healthy fats is a great way to support you hormonal balance. Eats lots of coconut oil, pasteurised butter, avocados and wild caught fish. Remove polyunsaturated fats completely from your diet, bye bye processed and fast food.

Avoid toxins as much as you physically can. They can disrupt hormone production and/or favour estrogen activity in the body. These toxins can be found in conventional body care and household cleaning products. Try buying green products, toxin free.

Get enough sleep !! This is crucial for your body to function properly. I know, sleep during pregnancy can be difficult for some, but it doesn't HAVE to be at night, sleep whenever you can!!

Topical Treatments

Oil Cleansing

Use a mixture of 1 part castor oil to 3 parts jojoba oil to cleanse your face daily. I know this sounds a bit counter productive but you'll be surprised wonders that oil can do for your skin. It will help the skin retain its natural moisture while clearing pores of dead skin cells, excess oils and other gunk.

Honey Cleansing

The anti-bacterial properties of raw honey makes for an amazing gentle cleanser. Mix a teaspoon of raw honey with some warm water then spread it over your face. Nice & yummy. Wash off with warm water and a washcloth.

Coconut Oil

The lauric acid in coconut oil has been shown in studies to work as a treatment for acne, amazing ! Use as a moisturiser after cleansing or whenever your skin feels dry.

Natural Apple Cider Vinegar Toner

A raw apple cider vinegar toner can be used to rebalance your skins PH, exfoliate dead skin cells and removes excess oil. Its antibacterial and antiseptic properties make it great for pregnancy acne. To make this toner simply mix 1 part ACV to 2-3 parts water (adjust ratio according to your skin needs). Swipe it over your face after cleansing.

Bentonite Clay Mask

This mask literally makes your face pulse! I ordered mine of amazon over 1 year ago, and its literally the most effective face mask I've every tried. Bentonite clay can be used to rid the body of toxins, and it has antibacterial properties, both these things make it a great mask to improve the skins health. Mix 1 teaspoon of clay and 1 teaspoon of water in a bowl until it forms a paste. Spread it over your face & leave for 20 minutes , rinse off with warm water. A folk remedy also says to apply this mask to swollen feet and legs to reduce swelling.... worth a try ? Disclaimer- only to be used externally.
